Your Chiropractic Evaluation
A chiropractic evaluation is needed for your doctor to assess your spine or disc problem and rule out other problems. The evaluation may include a history, physical exam, and orthopedic, neurologic, and chiropractic tests. Instead of just treating your aches and pains, your doctor will also locate and correct spinal misalignment and restriction.
By correcting this condition, your body can function more normally and heal itself.
Why X-Rays?
X-ray views of your spine may be necessary. These show a history of your spinal health, reveal pathologies, and make your chiropractic adjustments more precise. Today’s high-tech equipment and ultra-sensitive films minimize exposures.
The alignment of your spine can be assessed by your doctor. When a Vertebral subluxation is present, misalignment of your bones are a sign of its presence.
The condition of the actual bone is also demonstrated on an x-ray. A pathology that may require referral to another doctor or member of your health care team is important to rule out.
The degree of degeneration, both of your discs and the other spinal joints, are demonstrated on x-rays.
Although x-rays mainly show the state of your bones, there may be evidence of changes to the soft tissues surrounding your spine.
All of these elements are accounted for by your doctor when your x-rays are analyzed, helping her to plan the best course of treatment for you.
Your Care
The primary form of care is the return of spinal bones to more normal motion and position by specific chiropractic adjustments.
In conjunction with your specific chiropractic adjustments, your doctor may choose to institute other modalities, such as myofascial release, trigger point therapy, deep tissue massage, ultrasound, or electrical stimulation.
Regardless of the additional therapies, the specific chiropractic adjustments are the most important aspect of your care.
Patient Responsibilities
Chiropractic is a partnership approach to better health. Here are some ways you can get faster relief and better results from your chiropractic care:
1.Get involved. Follow your doctor’s recommendations.
2.Keep your appointments.
3.Strengthen your spine. Your doctor will recommend specific exercises that will help retrain your spine.
4.Get adequate rest.
5.Watch your diet. Adequate nutrition is very important during the healing process.
6.Ask questions. The better you understand your condition, the faster your recovery.
7.Refer others. Share your chiropractic experience with others.
Back-Saving Tips
Walk every day. Walking keeps your back flexible. It stretches and strengthens your back and thigh muscles, giving your back better support. Start with ten minutes a day, and work up to a minimum of 20 to 30 minutes every day.
Wear cushioned shoes. Comfortable, well-cushioned shoes absorb shock as you walk and help cushion your spine. When walking, wear a good walking shoe. Buy dress shoes with no more than an inch heel, and minimize the time you wear high heels (they throw your spine out of alignment).
Warm Up. Stretches before work and exercise warm up your body, helping you to prevent injuries. They soften your discs and stretch your muscles, improving your flexibility.
Use a back support. Back supports help keep your spine aligned when sitting or driving.
Lift with your legs. Improper lifting can cause injury or relapse. Keep your back straight, the load close to your body, and lift with your legs.
Doctor Kevala will advise you about any precautions you should take with specific activities or body positions.
